Polonium

Despite much consumption of polonium we are yet to see cases of superhero and supervillain powers. The subjects, instead tend to die painfully and slowly.

I don't know what to say, in the old days when someone ate radioactive substances or got bitten by  radioactive spider or got hit by a truck carrying radioactive barrels, you knew they would get superpowers. Well at least theres always gamma rays to get superstrength and that trendy green tinge.

Hulk SMASH!

No wait, da gamma rays man, dey are dee carcinogenic too. Damn this modern science.
